"PRETTY LIES WE BUY"

How Overconsumption Turned Into Modern Slavery...?

“A personal reflection on how fashion, beauty, tech, and trends quietly control us.”

Have you guys ever heard about consumerism??

Consumerism is basically the consumption or buying of clothes , objects , things or anything you need basically in simple terms !! But once we understand it deeply we realise that in today's world "CONSUMERISM HAS BECOME A FORM OF SLAVERY"...This is a very big statement which I've given , but let me explain this to you ...

Do you really feel we need to buy so many bunch of clothes every month? Or has fashion and trends influenced us so soo much that if we don't get into that race we feel left out !! And do you even realise that natural fabrics have become so uncommon these days which were actually good for our skin and health because skin is also an organ and the fabrics which we put on ourselves regulates our mood, body and health...but marketing companies have created such a system where Artificial fabrics in the name of so called sustainable and economical have occupied our lives...and these fabrics aren't even good for our health !! Massive clothing dumps in places like the Atacama Desert show us how "FAST FASHION" treats clothes as disposable waste...Because eventually clothes were meant to cover and protect ourselves , to make us look presentable and comfortable in our own body !! Right ?? So, how did the purpose of clothing just become a Pretence(show-off maybe)?? Where the fast fashion has turned clothing into a disposable tool for "Social sighting" rather than a necessity. The fast fashion industry turns clothing into something disposable instead of durable. This trend often prioritizes a "facade" of wealth or trendiness over quality and ethics, leading to a cycle of constant buying just to keep up appearances.

Because these days people buy outfits specifically for a single photo or post, creating an illusion of an infinite wardrobe.

Wearing loud brands acts as a shortcut for status , even if the person can't truly afford the lifestyle. The "pretence" is fueled by Social media , where the digital images of the clothes matters more than the actual garment. So, my question is "Where are we actually heading to ??"

Same with the tech gadgets , makeup , skincare and etc..

The skincare which is a necessity actually..but the amount of products which we are incorporating or i would say "we are influenced to incorporate in our skincare" !!The 10 step , 15 steps,...skincare routine !! Do you think it's really necessary?? "Your skin needs care, not construction "πŸ’€ excessive using of too many products on our skin is very harmful in long run !! This will benefit the healthcare market , not youu !! Understand the world, everything is business, the businessmen there only cares about their own profit and not youu my love..they want you to influence into overconsumption because it benefits them, not youu !! Same goes with Makeup ,.. An industry which has made people question their uniqueness (See , I realise makeup makes you look more presentable and confident, but when you can't accept your true self without it !! It is definitely a problem then..) The Socialmedia has tricked us in so many ways that now, we don't even realise that every individual is unique and is different....but now everyone wants to look a certain way or like someone....in the trap of overconsumption and marketing strategies..where we constantly feel the need to purchase something or the other !! Don't you think we are caught in a relentless loop of excess ??

Same goes with the overconsumption of tech products or gadgets !! Where even when we have the required things !! Just to keep up ourselves with the ongoing trends in world...we buy phones, gadgets etc...even when we don't have enough money to purchase such things, we take loans, buy it on EMI or soo !! I'll write a separate blog about this "Excessive Tech consumption in today's world" someday..

But even after knowing that the excessive tech consumption drives a massive environmental troll through stages like : "Resource extraction"(Manufacturing a single smartphone requires mining rare earth metals like lithium and cobalt. This process destroys habitats and consumes vast amounts of water and energy.) "Carbon footprint" (The global tech industry accounts for roughly 2-4% of greenhouse gas emissions. Much of this comes from the energy-intensive manufacturing and shipping of "unnecessary' upgrades.) "E-Waste crisis" (Electronic waste is the world's fastest-growing waste stream. Most discarded devices end up in landfills, where toxic chemicals like lead and mercury leak into the soil and water.) and much moree!!

At the end I would say that:

"Consumerism was meant to meet needs. Today, it controls desires.

We no longer buy because we need — we buy because we’re told to feel incomplete without it."

and remember this :

Maybe the real luxury today is not owning more,

but needing less.

Maybe freedom isn’t buying everything you want —

but realizing you were complete even before they sold you the idea that you weren’t.

A Note From My Heart (and Slightly Tired Brain):

I’m not saying burn your wardrobe, delete your skincare shelf, or throw your phone into the ocean (please don’t, the ocean has suffered enough😭).

Buy things. Enjoy nice things. Look good, feel good.

Just… maybe don’t let ads and trends tell you that you’re incomplete without the next “must-have.”

You’re not behind in life because you didn’t buy the new drop.

You’re not ugly because you didn’t do a 12-step skincare routine.

And you’re definitely not “out of touch” because your phone is still working perfectly fine.

is to feel content with what you already have"...♡

Lots of loveee ❤️ Take care and byee !!
